The school day starts with registration at 8.40am and finishes at 3.40pm. Our curriculum is exciting and challenging; it is beneficial to your child's learning that they arrive on time to school in order to access the lessons provided and avoid any detrimental affects to their and others' learning.
At 10.00am, children from Year 3 to Year 6 have a short 10 minute break time. This is an opportunity for them to enjoy the extensive playground markings and adventure playground. We also actively encourage our children - in order to ensure that they remain alert during their morning lessons - to bring a small, healthy snack to eat, for example vegetable sticks, fresh or dried fruit.
In order for your child to remain adequately hydrated, we ask for children to bring a small, named water bottle containing still water, which they can regularly take sips from throughout the day. Later in the morning, the children have a break from 11.20am – 11.35am.
Children in Reception have their lunch at 11.50am and their break ends at 1.00pm.
Those in Y1 and Y2 have lunch at 12.00 noon.
Getting to School
To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of health-related benefits: it is healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, we do have bike-racks. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely.
Year 3 – Year 6 begin their lunch break at 12:10pm. During their lunch break, they can take part in a variety of activities on offer, for example Wonderful Watercolours, Seasonal Salvage Craft, Code Club, Chess, Netball, Dance, Choir and Football. The School Council also meets weekly to discuss pertinent issues in the Junior School. The Junior School Council meets with the Infant School Council once a term. Lunch time is an opportunity to meet with their friends across the year groups and take time to rest, relax or expend more energy with group games in the playground.
There is a great selection of hot and cold food available for the children to eat at lunchtime. You can help your child achieve a balanced diet by selecting what they would like for lunch by viewing the menus online. The weekly lunch menus are available to view here: School menus
Drop-off and Collection
At the beginning and end of the school day, parents and guardians are encouraged into the playground. This helps to build a close relationship between home and school – we strive to have excellent links with all of our parents and guardians. If normal arrangements regarding drop-off and collection have to be altered, for example you are delayed or another person is collecting your child, please do let us know. In the event of a delay or change of circumstance, Mrs Tighe (Junior and Infant Receptionist) should be contacted on 01254 686311. This avoids any confusion or upset.
Please be reminded that children should not be left unattended in the morning before 8.30am. If you need to leave your child before this time, please use the Q-Plus service which operates from 7.45am. If you are interested in childcare before or after school, please see Mrs Tighe for further details; there is a charge for this service.
We would also be grateful if you could ensure your child is at school promptly: school begins at 8.40am and all late absences are recorded. If your child arrives at school late it could have a detrimental effect on their learning for the whole day and is disturbing to all other children in the class.
Please also be prompt when collecting your child at the end of the day: school finishes at 3.40pm. The teaching staff will wait for 10 minutes with your child and then ask the staff from Q-Plus to take any children who have not been collected to the Q-Plus rooms.
